With a bit of luck the era of Brown and Blair will come to an end in 2010, that said we have another Social Democratic Party almost certainly coming to power in 2010 in the shape of the Cameronian Conservative Party.
This is to be welcomed only in as much that it will be the end of overt Socialism for a while. However the Tories are just as wed to big Government having all the answers, do not expect to see the size of Government diminish much. Expect High Taxes, a continuation of an unwinable war and the continuation of the Quango State. This is not a revolutionary Government looking to change government fundamentally, but a vague promise to do better than the other lot. Just remember who was standing next to Lamont when we crashed out of the EMR, The EU showed no solidarity then, and now Lisbon has been implemented, they will show little interest in our national interest now.
Whilst I have been away I have read two books filtered through my Libertarian prejudices. The Last Secret by Lord Bethell, about the handing over of hundreds of thousands, of Cossacks,Georgians,Croats and Soviet POW's by force at the end of WWII to face instant execution within earshot of the British Troops doing the handover, the balance died of starvation, exposure and malnutrition in Stalin's Gulags. Both Churchill's Tories and Attlee's Labour party followed the same policy of keeping a murderous tyrant happy, when they knew these people would be massacred.
The moral being that both parties paid far too much attention to the needs of the State, than the morality of handing over individuals, men women and children to certain death. Only individual soldiers made the moral choice, in allowing these people to escape. The servants of the State blindly 'followed orders'.
The second was The Berlin Wall 1989- My part in its downfall. The last chapter by this journalist who lived under the Stasi as a correspondent for first Reuters then the Times, is an eye opener. He actually equates that Britain whilst not yet a Stasi State is getting very close to it.
It has been twenty years since the madness of European Communism died, yet the likes of Sunny Hundal, still see Socialism as a guiding light. This ignores the reality of the last sixty years, where socialism has engendered loss of freedom and unimagined butchery.
Fortunately 21 miles of sea has protected us so far from foreign ideologies and death squads, yet the insane are still amongst us looking for votes this year.
2010 must be a year that we maintain our anger with the political classes, that the rigged two party system is brought to an end, and the State slapped down hard.
With that I wish you all a happy individual New Year, and do not let the bastards grind you down. Freedom is a state of mind, nobody 'allows' you to be free.
