Wir Sind Das Volk ! WE Are The People

My sources tell me that backbenchers from the Parliamentary Labour Party are to meet their equally angry counterparts from the Tory 1922 Committee to discuss what to do about Sir Thomas Legg. They are all furious about the fact that his criteria are being applied retrospectively. “Why not just go back and decide that Germany won the 1966 World Cup?”, one asked me.

There was a meeting of 40 or 50 Labour MPs with Nick Brown and Harriet Harman this morning in Room 11 in the House of Commons. They were a tad upset, I’m told. Some were moaning that there were clerical errors in Legg’s paperwork (eg dates were wrong), others that papers had been lost.

Can anyone else think of an occasion when the two groups have gathered together? Curious times indeed. I’m not sure where and when it will happen yet; I’ll update you in due course.

What more evidence do you want that it is the political classes against the rest of us ?

This could be the winter of discontent...or maybe the Oktober revolution.

Something definitely in the air and not just the stink from the HOC.

Either this country will rise or the peoples spirit be broken - it cant go on like this...

Wiki says:
"During a revolutionary wave sweeping across the Eastern Bloc, the East German government announced on November 9, 1989, after several weeks of civil unrest, that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin."

It was almost twenty years ago to the day, Sargeant Pepper.

Ian is right - October must be revolution weather, before it gets too cold. Wiki says:
"The real wages of the workers fell about 50 percent from what they had been in 1913. Russia’s national debt in October 1917 had risen to 50 billion rubles. Of this, debts to foreign governments constituted more than 11 billion rubles. The country faced the threat of financial bankruptcy. "

The MPs don't seem to be able to understand the way the wind is blowing or the smell of burning it carries.

The MPs moan the rules are retrospective and it's all terribly unfair.

The rules at the time stated only expenses wholly and neccessarily for the execution of an MP's duties were justified. Many of the claims the Fees Office paid out on cannot possibly have been legitimate. That the Fees Office paid out is not to automatically make those payments kosher. A bank putting someone else's money into my account is just as much in error as I would be by spending it.

MPs are the gilded benefit cheats of the country. 'The system is at fault' is always the excuse, it is never their fault they stole money. They were even running prospective purchases past the Fees Office to see if they would pay out.

They were happy to have retrospective taxes on 4x4s and other prole transport.

Pay up you thieving lying fuckers!

And another thing...

Who pays MPs? 'The State' does. That is why so many of them do the bidding of the state.

Break that link. Have MPs barter for their earnings when they stand for election, with the money coming directly from their constituents. MPs should answer to us first not back room committees or the Government.

The MPs expenses scam is in two parts. Firstly, they voted themselves generous expenses. Secondly, they EXEMPTED those expenses from the attentions of the revenue.

The fuss they are kicking up now is a smokescreen to stop you noticing that no one is talking about removing that exemption.
