The Cronkite Test

LBJ once said if we have lost Cronkite we have lost America.

The Sun shifted its 'political allegiance' last night within hours of Brown's speech, this is probably Labour's Cronkite moment. Jack Straw was straight on the TV saying the 'Sun wos wrong'. Labour have been telling everybody they are the only ones who are right for years.

The BBC is leading a desultory counter attack with today's report that the Sun is not the power it once was.

Brown's speech at least tried to address the problem that Labour is exhausted, fresh out of ideas and drive. The bunker mentality is still there though, moving wooden blocks around on a map that represent armies that no longer exist.

The loss of the Sun shows that Peter Poppet is slowly losing his legendary control over the media. This was demonstrated in his outburst following Marrgate and the prescription anti depressants saga against the 'extreme right wing media and blogosphere.

And about fucking time too.

Not that excited by CallMeDave, but the sooner we get this bunch of tossers' hands off the levers of power, the better.

Had to laugh at @kerrymp, who thinks the loss of the Sun doesn't matter to Labour because "We've got Twitter"

ahahahahahahahahahaha!

Actually, what LBJ said was "if we have lots of concrete, we have blocks of wall." And he was right ...

All Nulab achieved in the end was to reaffirm that socialism is just another word for theft.

Very off-topic, but people should know. The Guardian is Stalinist.

I had previously been banned from there four times, so had created a fifth identity.

They haven't banned me, as such, this time - they've just taken away my entire profile and all my previous comments. And when I first open the page, there is apparently a comment facility available. But when I sign in the comment facility disappears. So I can't claim they've banned me again because I can still sign in ... I just can't do anything once I'm there.

They have a gradation of punishments now for saying stuff they don't like (i.e. talk about the REAL world):

Normal commenting
The naughty step (pre-moderation - I fucking hate euphemisms)
Banning
and, worst of all - non-banning banning with total Stalinisation of anything you've ever said.

There's a badge of pride eh? - One banning and four bars to my banning.

Cunts the lot of them.

A little off topic.

Gulags for slags
Listened to Ed Milipede with Paxman, where here referred to the single mums' new housing as foyers. I suddenly had a vision of top hotels full of chav mums and screaming kids, so I looked it up.

Apparently it was originally a French idea (it started in France not America) and was brought in by the Conservatives in 1994 for disadvantaged young people aged 16 to 25.

So NuLibor have just hijacked it and renamed them gulags for slags 17-18 year old single mums.

Bollocks it was !

They were years filled with astonishing change - and indelible history. In 1968, Cronkite returned from visiting Vietnam and declared on television:"It seems now more certain than ever that the bloody experience of Vietnam is a stalemate." President Lyndon Johnson, on hearing that, reportedly said, "If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost America."
