Do not ask for whom the bell tolls......

It tolls for thee, yeoman of the land of Magna Carta.

Whilst you slumbered last night, and in the many months before, the sinister shape of Directive 2006/24/EC crept into your lives and stole your freedom and your privacy.

Would it have made any difference if this burglar had worn a striped jumper and carried a bag marked 'swag' - probably not, for you slept soundly, happily believing that if you voted for a new government - when someone else got round to organising an election, when someone else handed out leaflets, when someone else hired a loud speaker and toured your streets - if you put your cross on a different name, you could go on with your cosy life, untroubled.

You were quite happy to believe that it really wasn't your concern.

You 'tutted' over that 'racist mob' the BNP. You 'clucked' at the alarmist stories in the Daily Mail. You 'grumbled' when you found your litter bin installed with a tracker device. Then you went on and re-mortgaged your house, marvelled at your good fortune, ran up your credit card, bought a new car, bought those ridiculous shoes that you couldn't walk in, and settled down to watch reality TV. You may even have turned on the computer and read some of the blogs, 'clucked' again at the comments, and departed, never bothering to leave your point of view.

Never standing up to be counted. It wasn't really your concern.

Someone else would sort it out for you. Someone else would make a fool of themselves, demanding smaller government, demanding to be left alone to organise their own life, supporting the Libertarian Party, being seen as a 'conspiracist'.

Today it's too late.

Today 52% of the population is dependent on retaining a Labour government for the very food in their bellies. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

Today the government spend 43% of your wages on supporting, amongst other things, that 52% of the population.

Today the government has hung a debt of £33,000 round the neck of each of your children.

Today, Directive 2006/24/EC means that the government will be monitoring every e-mail you send, every friend you make on the ubiquitous Facebook, every mobile phone call you make, every time you log onto this or any other web page.

You can't even 'tut' and 'grumble' amongst yourselves in private any more.

Now who will stand up to be counted?

OH Here: Count me in Whatever it takes

UPDATE: Some naughty person just wrote this in the comments

bomb, semtex, allah akbah, mustapha leik, number 10 downing street, MI5, MI6, House of commons, mohammed, mosque, jihad, white power, BNP, National front, anthrax, nail bomb, gordon brown must die, assassinate, IRD, IRA, demonstration, freedom of speech, nuclear device, machete, machine gun

I'm happy to be counted but whom do you suggest we vote for? Or what do you propose to do?

Not voting resolves nothing. Voting for Lab/Con/Lib seems a waste.
UKIP,BNP,Green will get nowhere.

That leaves..........?

First task is to get Labour out. Anything will do. Having shown them to be less powerful, we can continue to monitor the next lot.
As for reading emails etcetera, how much is this all going to cost? Bit of luck it will be a damp squib. Still stinks though. I'm with Orwell's Mr Smith.

I'll stand with you. The government isn't listening at all so the next-best thing is to harry the Conservatives who seem to be on course for an overall majority next May. Check out the likes of Redwood, Carswell and Con.Home. Cameron and his crew must be made aware of the strength of feeling against the way this country is drifting. Typing 'hoon' into a Gweeds post isn't going to do it - check out blogs that don't agree with you and engage with them. If you've got a Libertarian standing in your Ward, check them out too. The way things are can't be allowed to remain under a Conservative government.

Goodnight Vienna,
Thank-you for your support - one of the things I am trying to do is to engage more women - 50% of the voting population yet hideously unrepresented in either blogs or comments.
The blogging world is a very masculine one, testosterone rich. I cringe every time I see 'ejaculated by Anna Raccoon' (apologies Old Holborn, but I do!) but I persevere because women do need to get out more into the blogging world whilst they still can.
It's not easy and you need the hide of a rhinoceros to do it - but part of the problem/reason why we ended up with this government is voter apathy; ipso, getting women mobilised is one sound route to increasing the voting numbers. Since women are predominantly at home - more so than men at the moment, it stands to reason that they are more likely to have the time to spend on a computer blogging.
Encourage women to come onto your site, involve them - we might overcome that dreaded figure of 52% 'dependent on the government for support' that will distort the voting figures.
We need less government, not just a change of government.
Incidentally I have just posted on my site a translation of a speech by the French Ambassador which makes for interesting reading.

Another Dan Hannan in the making, feel free to copy and spread it around. Politicians and diplomats prepared to speak out deserve to be given every ounce of support.

Manchester’s “BNP HQ” Falls Victim to Dirty Labour tricks, but the Political Fight Continues

ace-of-diamondsBy Derek Adams. Manchester’s Labour council certainly do not like the idea of the British National Party rapidly gaining support in the city, so much so that they are using every underhand trick in the book in order to stop it.

Apart from the usual Labour lies and false accusations about the BNP, the Labour-funded so called ‘third party’ smear leaflets and the usual array of leftist town hall workers eager to keep the red flag flying above the Manchester Kremlin, this time they have even resorted to telling lies about the candidate in the Moston by-election, Derek Adams.

Whoever penned the latest Labour ‘lieflet’ in Moston obviously did not realise that it is an offence under electoral law to make false statements of fact about a rival candidate in an election. Greater Manchester Police have taken a statement and are forwarding the details to the Crown Prosecution Service; visitors to this site will be kept informed about the outcome of this investigation.

Another, still more serious dirty trick and possibly the vilest abuse of power against a political opponent that has ever been used in Manchester, is the compulsory purchase order placed on Derek Adams’ pub, the Ace of Diamonds.

Derek Adams has been a victim of local council bullying ever since he first stood for election on behalf of the British National Party; he has been threatened with losing his liquor license, harassed by all manner of council departments and has even seen customers being issued with council parking tickets late at night. When all of these tactics failed to intimidate Derek, the Council finally resorted to using taxpayer’s money to rid themselves of him and his pub, which councillors sarcastically refer to as “BNP HQ”.

In the Miles Platting “regeneration” Private Finance Initiative scam, which will no doubt see many councillors’ bank balances bulge to bursting point, the Ace of Diamonds pub, which has been in existence since approximately 1850, was originally not included in the area redevelopment plans, however when landlord and BNP activist Derek refused to be intimidated by the council bullies, the Ace of Diamonds was suddenly incorporated and a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) was issued.

Apart from the ‘freehold’ pub being Derek’s home and livelihood, it is also one of the few remaining pubs in the Miles Platting area, and certainly the safest for elderly local residents to visit, which makes a mockery of Gordon Brown’s pledge to save traditional British pubs.

Within the same so-called “regeneration” project in Miles Platting, another former public house, which is a total eyesore, was removed from the CPO, thus allowing it to remain standing. That building is now used as an Afro-Caribbean shop, a ‘College’ for overseas students and what can only be described as a late night unlicensed rave venue.

When asked for a comment Derek said “It will be a sad day for myself and the local community when they destroy this building. However, when the BNP gain power in Manchester, an investigation will be launched into any corrupt decisions that have been made in this, and many other cases, and the perpetrators will be held accountable.” He went on to say, “They will never break my spirit or my resolve, they can take away my business and my home but they will never take away my determination to see these people held to account for the destruction of my City and my Nation.”

For the benifit of the web police

A good test for the effects of a CO powered air pistols (semi auto)

Take your sunday roast, unfrozen and before cooking. Put it somewhere where the wife wont worry about the cupboards, cats, children, and other unintended consequences of a miss.
fire 3-4 rounds into said roast, do an examination of damage done. It is not very important wether its a chicken, joint of beef, pork or lamb, all will show satisfactory results. copper pelts work best, I have been told.
Clearly this test should be carried out in a way that satisfy all health and safety guidelines and also comply with plods defination as to where and how to meet their requirements.

This could be useful info should you have need to defend yourself from a chicken, not so good on cows or pigs or sheep.

I am awaiting word on doing same experiment using a .22 air rifle.
results to follow.

Having read both the draft UK version of this and the original directive I can’t see any requirement for access to web sites to be logged, it does seem to be restricted to VOIP calls, E-mail and your computers connection to the internet. Other traffic such as accessing web sites doesn’t seem to be logged, also it doesn’t require the creation of additional data so if the ISP isn’t already forcing you through a logging proxy server (transparent or otherwise) there’s no requirement for them to start doing so. Though of course they may decide to change that further down the line, but logging web access can be tricky and if HTTPS is used it becomes a difficult problem.

Also given what they're claiming to be starting to log adding spook blocks again is pointless. Using e-mail addresses such as jihad@sedition.org.uk would be more effective. Also as I've written elsewhere get together with techy mates and run your own servers, these days it's easy and cheap and makes it much harder to be monitored.

Goodnight vienna...
I didn't conclude you were a woman - just that we need to mobilise women.
It's a numbers game, and there simply aren't enough committed voters to get this lot out at the next election - that is what they are banking on -
There is a huge reserve of women available however, who don't get involved.
Politics is traditionally a male preserve - and the only women who get on, do so by aping the men.....that tends to put off the female voters.
The internet is the best possible place to reach women, you won't find them turning up to meetings held over pubs in Manchester, but you will find them surfing the blogs, make them welcome, that's all I'm saying.
They have a vote, it counts, persuade them to use it.

Nowt will change, once the British feel comfortable they get complacent.

They feel it's ok to sit back and lecture everyone else on how they should behave, It's only when they have no other option they will even consider change.

Our MP's won't change they are amongst the most comfortable of all groups.

We need to see hard times, very hard times, the bottom rungs of society has been there for years but nobody cared about them, but soon the shit will be on the doorsteps of middle England.

Taking the attitude that you'd rather they stayed home and kept the fire burning brightly is remarkable short sighted.

Anna,

Whats this, women arnt affected by all this, they get the hump and dont vote because the blokes dont give them pink stuff. You have got the vote, fucking use it or lose it. You are emancipated, do your stuff, if mens blogs dont float your boat, get pink ones going, you have issues that need addressing as well.

OH, women are fickle, they have their own motivation, a nice smile, a wolfish look, simmering eyes, dark, tall, sense of humour, a deep voice, the look of worldiness a big wad of dosh and away they go. Never mind that they are falling for jack the Ripper, he has a lovely smile,
I will vote for him and have his babies if chance permits.
They would turn out for Blair but not for Griffin, yea right, this time they get to vote Brown as against Griffin.
Vote for an Independant, I am OK with that, but just to take it further, how would it work with 646 Independants reinventing the wheel at every meeting.
Realistically (spell check) a group of independents with similar ideas will form into a party, thats the only way to get things done, a block vote would morph, deals would be made and off we go again.

If someone from the local council called at your house every few weeks and said "I'm from the local council and I would like to come in and make a note of what books and magazines you have in your house so that we can keep an eye on what you are reading" perhaps only then would folk take notice of what is happening? The logging of *all* internet activity is actually worse than that in terms of invasion of privacy.

Except for the fact that we are insulted and defiled by the reading of our post by someone else, with regards to the web, that was always going to be a problem. To send a message or read a message going thru a cable means that between the sender and the receiver there are many conections and servers. These were never going to be secure because of their very nature. The only security that is possible would have to be a well regulated and legally binding laws to up hold content confidentiality back up with strong enforcment.
That was what we thought was the case, what we are finding out now is that we made a bad assumption.
The fact is that it is open to the government both nationally and internationaly to do with as they see fit.
However, as it transpires, the web is also a tool in our hands as well. We have blogs and all the rest, we can move stories faster than the MSM, we get information, we can comment, we can read and we can write.
Should they switch us off, they will have to find other ways to find out what we are up to and by then we would be arrse deep in a revolution.
I say, give them so much work to do that they give up. Its not just a bloke reading stuff, there would have to be a fucking army sorting it all out, acting on it and dealing with it. A couple million cases a year would really mess there heads up and there would be hell to pay when people start getting arrested.
There is a tipping point, we are there, enough is really enough.

And the tories will protect the innocent from having their DNA stored by the police ? They will only allow such details to be stored for 5 years . Why ? WTF ?

Anonymous said...

Well, for my money this is yet another policy from the Department of Not Thinking It Through. The directive forces companies to store the info, and make it available to the authorities; there's no stipulation that the info be easy to get to. This means that the people doing the storing are just going to cat the logged info to a disk array and back this up to bzip2 tar archives on tapes on a daily or weekly basis (depending on data volume to media volume ratios).

It will then be up to the authorities to pull anything useful out of this morass of detail, which given that the Government has all the sysadmin skills of the average goldfish will be delegated out to an outside company, which will of course milk the situation as thoroughly and outrageously as possible.

Any terrorist of even marginal brains is just going to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) terminating in Switzerland which means that all the ISP is going to see is an encrypted stream terminating in a non-EU state.

As soon as convictions from trawls on the ISP data become public, dodging the prod-noses with a VPN will become commonplace and the effectiveness of the snooping will be lost entirely, if it hasn't disappeared even now. What MPs forget is that the Internet has had overly-inquisitive scum infesting it right from the word go and a lot of highly effective means of thwarting them have been devised over the years; the UK Government is merely an extremely large and unsubtle snooper with if anything less brains than the normal run-of-the-mill spy.

No, this scheme is going to meet its Waterloo fairly soon after the next election, along with a lot of Neu Arbeit's other boondoggle projects like ID Cards and the client state of dolescum.
