(Just a flight of fantasy on a warm spring day)

Lawyers leaning on the BBC, is this not what Russian Oligarchs do ?

As soon as people start reaching for their lawyers you know they are in he shit up to their necks. It's a bit like the time when contracts are being cited. You know the game's over.

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of rising authoritainaism, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of Her Majesty's people-every man of them. That is the will of the Internets and the nation.

The British Internets and the American Internets, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native information, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the stasi and all the odious apparatus of authoritarian rule, we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight on the Internets,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our freedom, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight in the blogs,
we shall fight on the databases,
we shall fight in the banks and in the credit reference agencies,
we shall fight in the courts and the voting booths;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Internet or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our freinds beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the cyrotography, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New media, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

You forgot to add 'and sell our daughters to pimps so they can learn to fire ping-pong balls out of their pussies in Bangkok nite-spots...'

The one thing that gets me is that when the lawyers are wheeled out - why can't we stick a camera in /their/ face and a microphone *up* their noses get their names into the bargain - I doubt I'm the only person who wants to see and hear what the threats actually are...

First kill all the lawyers is a fake quote - but whoever dreamt it up was on the right track

But - in the case of the BeeB - my experience is the lawyers are a figment of what passes for a timid producer's imagination - toadying creeps

Please, guys, be fair! It's not right to slur Russian oligarchs by comparing them to British politicians.

Please don't be so nasty about us lawyers either. It's not my learned friends and I, but the politicians now running for cover, who make the laws.

At least half the time, we lawyers get to speak up for the person who is in the right. That's more than can be said for Messrs McBride or Draper.
