The bird feeder

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, and the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families. You have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor. Your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box. I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder?

A big warm Old Holborn welcome to Bob's Head revisited as an Author on this esteemed Organ

It's strange this should be the subject this morning. Extremely well put and succinct.

Be careful - the RSPB might be after you.

how simple but very accurate anology that piece is.

An accurate analogy and I was ahead of you from the first paragraph, which is more down to the erudition of the piece than my powers of discernment.

We are in a mess arnn't we?

Brilliant - cheers Bob.

I often check on Bob's blog so I'm glad to see him back.

The problem is we are all racist, xenophobic, protectionist now. Read what went on at Davos and Doha. They just ride over us like we don't exist. Remember Barroso saying "the people who matter" are considering entry into the euro? That's how they think of us, the electorate. We don't matter to them. What matters is their simplification of the world, the dumbing-down so that all can be accommodated - and they rule. The self-elected elite, they rule.

I've read years of analogies like Bob's - it doesn't get any better. At what point did "for the people, by the people" become, " you don't matter, we know better so just fuck off and we'll get back to you"?

wv is mingie which either describes govt policy or my state of mind

Just to further prove the point.

I spoke with my friends brother earlier today. Quite an inteligent man.

He has been on the 'sick' for the last two years or so with 'depression'.

He recently got married (nice honeymoon in Cuba) and has had his benefit cut to £45 per week, as his wife works.

His solution to this sudden drop in income?

"I am going to have to get a job"

If we want to carry on "feeding " the birds perhaps all those people who sit around in offices all day consulting, counting and making big "decisions" could get off their sweaty arses and do something productive just for once, try growing making or fixing something, if they did we would'nt be virtualy bankrupt.

And the birds could then find their own food.

Reminds me of that Reagan quote:

"Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other."

But if the birds had voted for you would you have taken down the feeder then?

Just one point. Being born in Britain doesn't give you British nationality. I believe it was the Iron Duke who maintained that being born in a stable did not make one a horse. However as the Home Office now gives out British citizenship to anyone who asks for it this is not necessarily a hindrance.

Close the borders. Kick the EU into touch and start shipping deadbeats back where they belong.
