OH 1, Bristol City 0

Kerry McCarthy (Mogadishu East, Lab) was unique in that when she entered the blogosphere recently, she allowed comments on her blog

She doesn’t anymore

Change of plan
I've decided - suddenly, spontaneously - that this has gone on too long. Someone told me the other day he finds it 'depressing' to read the comments on this blog, and I have to agree. I'm not at all comfortable with the fact that some deeply unpleasant people are using it to promote their deeply unpleasant views, or that I have reached the stage of praying that some of my constituents don't read some of the comments, or that I decided against posting some pictures of Ugandan orphans performing at No. 10 because I thought it would attract abuse. Or, indeed, the fact that I'm almost self-censoring myself from writing about topics such as immigration or the Shannon Matthews case because of the comments that are likely to follow, which would be offensive and insulting to many of my constituents (who are the ones I really want to read this).
So, I'm going to moderate comments - reluctantly - from now on. And there are some people I just don't want on this site, and won't be accepting comments from.

Kerry, sweetie, you are reading depressing comments because we are in a depression. You and your colleagues caused it. I don’t want to see pictures of Ugandan Orphans outside number 10 your blog. I want to know what you are doing about YOUR patch, the most violent street in the UK. If you find yourself unable to speak freely about immigration or Shannon Matthews, it is because you know the shite we are all regarding one million illegals or an entire generation of “unemployables” as you call them were created by the government you work for slavishly. You have now decided to go the classic route of censorship.

Your blog will die a slow lingering death as people stop checking to see if you will allow their contributions or not. Blogging is not about brochureware Kerry. It is not a virtual pamphlet to be stuffed through letterboxes. It is about debate. You work for us Kerry. Answer our fucking questions. You're spending our money, we pay you and you control every aspect of our fucking miserable lives. Do as YOU are fucking well told.

By the way, you can chat to her on
Facebook, if you like. Oh, and trust me Kerry, according to my server logs, you read my blog a lot more than I (or anyone else) reads yours.

I don't have a problem with it really. Its her blog she can do as she likes. I doubt she gets much traffic and lets be fair if Broon allows us another election will she still have a job afterward?

Yeah, but she probably had some airy fairy idea about engaging with the public. Trouble with the public is they tend to have en-vetted politically incorrect ideas. Someone indoctrinated into the NuLabour ideology can't quite get to grips with that, so it's fingers in the ears and "La la la la la!"

I don't suppose too many of "her constituents" can read (English) anyway, which is probably why nobody visits her blog.

What did you expect from the politburo, free speech and a willingness to listen. How can she control if your picking holes in everything, you WILL listen.

What a surprise, twat MP doesn't actually want to know what the electorate think. Oh no, she's upset that people might comment on that Matthews woman, or say things about foreigners (when her party had a civil servant arrested for leaking stories about immigrants). Congratulations Mr H and long may you continue.

Left a post but have no great hopes about it being allowed despite it being unoffensive.

Ditto, but seeing as Kerry previously said she doesn't take me seriously I don't hold up much hope for it getting past the screens.

so who's next for the flash-blog treatment?

I'm still waiting for her to amend her "posting rules" now she's taken the censorship tack:

"Third: I don't have a problem with trenchant criticism of me or the Government, or vociferously expressed opinions, but if you're abusive or aggressive I'll probably choose to ignore you. And I reserve the right to delete highly offensive comments."

I was just about to say on her blog that she'll probably start to censor.

Ah, yes, welcome back the old 'Ugandan' euphamism! Private Eye had a lot of fun with that back in Idi Amin's day.

As for Kerry 'Jo' McCarthy, you can't really expect her to want to debate with the Great Unw----, uh, the great British taxpayer, can you? That would be too much like...what's the word?....accountability!

"Deeply unpleasant people." Yeah, right. Not half as deeply unpleasant as the raping, murdering primitives and psychos Kerry's party has unleashed on the unprepared British electorate.

The Scumbag said...

Thing is though, she's not going to be the type who is going to use a blackberry or other bit of mobile kit and thus regularly release comments like the lady Dale used to. So expect to post a comment, and it to appear days later.

i guess she thought that we would all kneel before her and applaud her every utterance.

read her comments defending her salary.she really does believe it is her divine right ....

personally i would just about trust her to empty the dog toilet boxes...

after quite a lot of training and achieving a manual handling certificate.....hmmm.. it could take some time!

The sheer audacity of ANY New Labour M.P. to call other people "Deeply unpleasant", has almost rendered me speechless. Are they now living in such a Utopian bubble, surrounded by devoted sycophants and lost in the world of their own deluded self importance that they miss the reality of what the British public now think of their odious regime?

Perhaps Kerry recently attended an identical course to that of our dire Home secretary Jacqui Spliff on how to be a leader and indeed lead, and thus was indoctrinated by those democratic people at Common Purpose, of how she herself, had actually lost control of her very own blog, as New Labours message was now a standing joke throughout the length and breadth British society.

I notice she comments that she was: "reluctant to do it", just I suppose, as Stalin himself was "Reluctant" to murder most of his own glorious Soviet Comrades in times anon.
With each and every passing day New Labour become even more of a ludicrous parody of what we all mock them to be.

Landslide!! - plain and simple - and just like John Majors pathetic government afore Blair, these New labour imbeciles will genuinely believe that they still have a fighting chance of victory.

Yeah Right......

O.T.: Doctor-patient Non-Confidentiality might be another thing to tackle:

Apparently, unless you *opt-out*, your GP will blabber all manner of private things about your ailments to various people like the Council.
This could, for example, affect your chances of getting a shotgun certificate.

I reckon Kerry believes that her function is to carry the message of the labour party to the electorate. She knows that she is no conduit for messages upwards in the food chain.
Further, she either has an enormous nose or a small philtrum.

It never fails to amaze me the sheer naivety of these M.P.s, they are so out of touch its frightening. Thank God for the internet, its about the only thing left that they cant shut down.

But Kerry, whilst I appreciate totally that it is your blog and your rules, do you not think that the benefit of a completely open debate is that your readers are then free to make up their own minds about the arguments and the personalities of those putting forward their points of view?

By moderating comments and banning some posters, are you not treating your readers like children who have to be protected from the real world of grown up argument?

Is that not a retrograde step?

If Kerry wants to help Ugandan Orphans, then that is fine, as long as it does not use resources allocated her for constituency work.

I cannot see how it has any relevance to her role as an MP, so why, outside of shameless grandstanding, is she pushing it onto her MP blog?

LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! See how I love strangers!

At last I feel that David Cameron is starting to make the right noises and to see the light. His views on welfare are particularly interesting.

I don't know if yours is the right or wrong approach, OH. Nothing seems to have worked thus far but all I can say is that it's not in my nature to be part of it, so I haven't been.

My view is that the 'system' has to fail and be SEEN to fail. Nu Labour will be utterly discredited and distrusted for generations. (Bring OLD labour back by all means.) I'm glad that Brown bottled the election, for if the Tories had won they would now be carrying the can for everything.

Rest assured that a reckonning is imminent - if this is what you want. If it's not what you want then you should be feeling unsettled, put those emigration plans into motion. Frankly I'm astonished that Nu Labour have brought us to such a terrifying precipice. The hollow sense of vertigo is palpable and even a pessimist such as me could not imagine what an utterly disasterous Government this would turn out to be.

Yes, Kerry, please resign. But you won't. Even with the destruction of your party it probably won't matter because you're a member of a very exclusive club, a self-serving elite who will be cossetted and rewarded with power in some form or another.

Meanwhile I'll just keep buggering on with my job, try against odds to bring my family up decently and do my level best to keep some semblance of normality in my broken country.

Censoring in this way completely defeats the point of having a political/current affairs blog? Why not just post the occasional news letter to people who already agree with you?

LOL. I suppose she takes issue with people wondering WTF 20,000 Somalis are doing in Bristol. Since Noo Labour achnowledge via Woolas that most asylum seekers are economic migrants I expect them to be kicked out. Of course pigs will have to evolve wings first.

It is her blog so I suppose she can do what she likes. I presume she funds it herself? Someone as principled as her wouldn't expect the taxpayer to fund it, would she? The only opinions she wants are those that agree with her that Gordon is great and NuLab care. Waste of time posting anything on her little egofest. Best leave her and her mate Northernwassisname to it.

Quite so, I had not heard of this Kerry person until I came across her blog and will soonly forget her.
The Orphans At The Gates Of Number 10 thing is just her sucking up to Gordon.
